Citi Ventures Invests in Stablecoin Payments Provider BVNK
Citi Ventures, the investment arm of Citigroup, has strategically backed BVNK, a stablecoin infrastructure firm processing $20 billion annually. This MOVE signals growing institutional confidence in blockchain-based payment systems, following recent investments from Visa and Tiger Global.
Stablecoins are transitioning from crypto experiments to regulated financial infrastructure. Citi Research forecasts a multi-trillion-dollar market as enterprises adopt the technology for cross-border settlements. BVNK's clients include payment processors Worldpay and Flywire, leveraging stablecoins to address traditional pain points in international transactions.
"BVNK's enterprise-grade infrastructure stands out in facilitating on-chain settlements," said Arvind Purushotham of Citi Ventures. The investment coincides with regulatory advancements like the EU's MiCA framework and the U.S. GENIUS Act, which establish clear guidelines for stablecoin issuance.
